Your First Yankee Security Convention Starts Before You Walk Through the Door
If this is your first time attending the Yankee Security Convention, welcome.
For decades, Yankee Security has brought locksmiths, security professionals, technicians, manufacturers, distributors, instructors, and industry leaders together to learn, connect, and see what is next for the profession.
The 46th Annual Yankee Security Convention takes place October 20–24, 2026, at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. This year’s theme, “The Future Is Connected: Lock, Tech & Integration,” reflects just how much the industry continues to evolve.
With five days of education, two days of trade show exhibits, hands-on learning, networking events, demonstrations, and special activities, there is a lot happening.
A little planning can help you make the most of every day.
Start With the Education Schedule
One of the biggest benefits of attending Yankee Security is the opportunity to learn directly from experienced professionals across the locksmith and security industry.
Educational programming runs throughout the convention, with full-day classes Tuesday through Thursday, half-day classes Friday morning, and additional programming Saturday.
Courses cover areas including:
Mechanical locksmithing
Automotive locksmithing
Access control
Safe and vault servicing
Door hardware
Electronic security
Fire door inspections and code compliance
Key generation
Low-voltage systems
Instead of trying to take in everything, identify the skills that could make the biggest difference for your business.
Are you looking to add a new service? Become more efficient with something you already offer? Learn more about electronic access control? Strengthen your automotive or safe work?
Choose your classes with those goals in mind.
And register early. Popular classes can fill quickly.
Give Yourself Time on the Trade Show Floor
The classroom is only one part of Yankee Security.
The trade show opens Friday from 12:00 PM–5:00 PM and Saturday from 11:00 AM–4:00 PM, bringing together more than 100 manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, and service providers.
For a first-time attendee, the show floor can feel like a lot to cover.
Do not feel like you need to see everything immediately.
Take your time.
Walk the floor once to get a sense of what is there, then go back to the companies and product categories most relevant to your work.
Talk with manufacturers. Ask for demonstrations. Compare products. Ask questions about installation, training, support, compatibility, and real-world applications.
Trade shows give you something a product page cannot: the opportunity to see products in person and talk directly with the people who know them.
Come With Questions
The easiest way to get more value from Yankee Security is to arrive curious.
Before the convention, make a short list of problems, products, or technologies you want to learn more about.
Maybe you have been considering adding access control to your services.
Maybe you are looking for a better automotive solution.
Maybe a particular lock, tool, programmer, safe product, or electronic system has caught your attention.
Bring those questions with you.
Classes, instructors, manufacturers, distributors, and other attendees can all become valuable resources.
Make Time for the Special Events
Some of the best parts of Yankee Security happen outside the traditional classroom.
Thursday evening features the Yankee Security Trade Show Kickoff Social, followed Friday evening by the ASSA ABLOY Annual Locksmith & Distribution Party. Saturday morning also includes Allegion’s Saturday Security Showdown: Breakfast & Bragging Rights, an interactive educational session held before the exhibit hall opens.
These events give attendees another opportunity to meet people, continue conversations, and enjoy the industry beyond the workday.
Put Your Skills to the Test
There is also some friendly competition coming to the show floor this year.
The Greater Philadelphia Locksmith Association is sponsoring the 2026 Lock Picking Contest, giving attendees an opportunity to put their hands-on skills to work while having a little fun along the way.
Events like the Lock Picking Contest celebrate something that remains central to the locksmith profession even as technology evolves: craftsmanship.
Whether you participate or watch, make sure to check it out while you are at the show.
Talk to People You Don’t Already Know
You may come to Yankee Security for education and products, but the people you meet can become one of the most valuable parts of the experience.
Introduce yourself to the person sitting next to you in class.
Talk with instructors after a session.
Ask another locksmith what tools they use.
Meet the people behind the companies you buy from.
You do not need to meet everyone at the convention. Even a few meaningful conversations can lead to new ideas, technical resources, referrals, friendships, and industry connections that continue long after the show ends.
Take Notes You Can Actually Use
By the end of five days, you are going to hear a lot of information.
Do not rely on yourself to remember everything once you get back to the shop.
Keep a simple list throughout the convention:
Things to research.
Products to follow up on.
People to contact.
Ideas to try.
Training to pursue.
At the end of each day, take five minutes to review your notes and identify your most useful takeaways.
Your First Yankee Security Convention Won’t Be Your Last
The best way to approach your first Yankee Security Convention is simple:
Come ready to learn.
Ask questions.
Try something new.
Meet people.
And make time to enjoy being surrounded by others who understand the industry.
From education and hands-on training to the trade show, networking events, live demonstrations, and this year’s Lock Picking Contest, Yankee Security gives you five days to invest in your skills, your business, and your professional network.
We’ll see you in Springfield.
